The Global Search for Education: Sergio Castaneda on Editing AI Filmmaking and the Future of Ethical Storytelling
In the latest episode of AI for a Better World, host C.M. (Cathy) Rubin sits down with Max Einhorn, Co-Founder and CEO of Gennie, to discuss his pioneering AI documentary series Killer Kings. Using generative AI rather than traditional film crews, Einhorn’s studio redefines historical reenactments, lowers production costs, and broadens creative possibilities. The show is edited by Sergio Castaneda.
The Global Search for Education is pleased to welcome Sergio Castaneda to share his insights on the creative process behind this groundbreaking conversation.
When cutting this conversation, what techniques did you use to translate Max’s technical AI-filmmaking concepts into clear, story-driven beats for a general audience?
My approach was to showcase visuals of Max’s work on Killer Kings and highlight AI-generated visuals throughout the documentary. This allowed audiences to see the technology in action while grounding the discussion in relatable, story-driven examples. It also demonstrated how Max uses multiple AI tools, such as Veo and Imagen, to bring history alive.
What did you learn about framing ethics — disclosure, bias, and transparency — so viewers understand what AI reenactments can and can’t do?
I learned the importance of being upfront with audiences by using clear disclosures and transparent framing. It’s essential to clearly distinguish between what is AI-generated and what is real…
Which editorial decision (a trim, reorder, or added context card) most improved the episode’s clarity or pace, and why?
Using visuals from Killer Kings was key. Because the episode centered on Max’s AI approach to history, those visuals grounded the conversation, clarified the discussion, and balanced the pacing while keeping the focus sharp
After producing this episode, what best practices will you carry into future AI-focused interviews — especially around visuals, citations, and guardrails?
I’ll continue with practices that have worked well: using B-roll to clarify concepts, crediting creators for any additional material, trimming for clarity, and highlighting the most important discussion points. These editorial guardrails ensure content remains both engaging and responsibly produced.
Thank you Sergio!
